Community Green Pledges

We are delighted to relaunch our Community Green Pledges initiative to help community groups and organisations make changes which have a positive impact on the environment.

Why is this important?

If the natural world can no longer support the most basic of our needs, then much of the rest of civilization will quickly break down…please, make no mistake. Climate change is the biggest threat to security that modern humans have ever faced.

Sir David Attenborough – ITV News article

‘Around the world, the Covid-19 crisis has disrupted life as we know it.  The pandemic has shone a light on working life, family life, inequalities, transport and its environmental impacts, and the businesses and governments that hold sway over us.A tornado gives the chance to rebuild. Campaigners in many quarters are urging not just for society to get back to ‘normal’ but to use this as an opportunity to transform and do things better. The old political trope that ‘children are our future’ has never felt so real. ‘

Sophie Howe, Well-being of Future Generations Commissioner – iNews article

We know that communities have united and adapted during the pandemic and these changes have also had a positive environmental impact.  Many are saying they will retain some of these positive environmental changes post pandemic.  The pledges aim to recognise these positive contributions to our communities by awarding a bronze, silver, gold or platinum pledge status to proudly display.

We recognise that climate change still remains the most significant issue of our time. We need to take drastic action now to reduce our greenhouse gas emissions and prepare and mitigate for the impacts of global warming, sea level rise and extreme weather events.

By reducing our impact on the environment, we can ensure that future generations have the same opportunities we have today.  Lifestyles and behaviours must change in order to achieve this goal.  By signing up, you will be joining a community united in making a positive difference for everyone.

What are the Pledges?

There are 5 Green Pledges that any community group and organisation can sign up to and show how they are making the pledge to make a difference. You can also add your own pledges if you think we’ve missed anything!

  • Community Buildings and facilities
  • Transport
  • Reduce, Reuse & Recycle
  • Local and Ethical Produce
  • Environment and Nature

There are lots of benefits to signing up, like…

  • Making where you live / work a better place
  • Making new friends
  • Reducing your environmental impact
  • Educating your community
  • Feeling good that you’re making a difference
  • Sharing good ideas

However please make sure you comply with Welsh Government’s latest Coronavirus (COVID-19) rules when you’re doing any activities.

Signing up is easy…

Take a few minutes to provide us with some details about your group or organisation and tell us what you’ve been up to. We’ll then send you a Pledge certificate to proudly display!
